Ms. Jennifer Yi is a dedicated piano instructor and collaborative pianist with over 8 years of teaching and performance experience in both private and academic settings. She holds a Master of Music in Music Therapy from Ohio University, where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA and served as a graduate assistant. She also earned Bachelor’s degrees in Music from Dong-A University in South Korea.
Ms. Yi has taught students ranging from young beginners to adults, including individuals with special needs and older adults with memory-related conditions. As an educator, Ms. Yi emphasizes accessible and inclusive teaching methods, integrating classical piano pedagogy with therapeutic and individualized approaches. Her teaching approach is grounded in classical piano technique, with a strong emphasis on musical expression, confidence-building, and individualized instruction. She believes in adapting her methods to meet each student's unique learning style and goals, making lessons both engaging and effective.
As an experienced accompanist, Ms. Yi has worked with choirs, soloists, and instrumentalists in recitals, competitions, and ensemble settings. She has performed with groups such as the Gaonnuri Youth Orchestra and the Athens Children’s Chorus, and has served as a staff accompanist at Ohio University.
Clinically trained in music therapy, Ms. Yi completed fieldwork in diverse settings, including nursing homes, developmental centers, behavioral health programs, and inclusive preschools. Her work has supported individuals with Alzheimer’s, autism, developmental disabilities, and emotional and behavioral challenges. She has also provided adapted piano lessons for children with special needs and older adults with early-stage dementia.
Now based in Southern California, Ms. Yi is passionate about creating a positive and supportive learning environment where students can explore, grow, and enjoy the lifelong gift of music.
